When I lived in Sydney, I enjoyed a bit of a ritual in the month of June – watching the Vivid Festival from the Quay Restaurant in the Rocks. This year we did it again, but this time, it was a little different.
The Quay is now called the Oriana Restaurant, and it has new owners, a new menu and a sophisticated look which I really appreciated. The new interior design has replaced the cool blue look with a sophisticated, warm palette including ochres, shades of orange, taupe and timber.
What I loved is that the look reminded me of the ochre desert colours I have been exploring in my art over the past few years. There is something very comfortable, almost soothing, about this palette, especially when combined with a contemporary, uncluttered, design aesthetic.
The seats were comfortable. The food was great. And the view was (as I expected) amazing, with a wonderful view of the opera house lit up with an ever-changing menagerie of sea creatures and fluid design.
