I recently travelled to Helsingborg in Sweden to take part in a women’s artist retreat. This was a small group with a strong focus on self-awareness as a vehicle to explore the creative impulse, rather than artist tools or methods.
Each day of the retreat we explored the internal experiences that informed our creativity. It is a way of working that I am very comfortable with, and it was uplifting to be in the presence of other artists who valued this approach.
We also had a few interesting ‘excursions’ including one to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, a place I have always wanted to visit. My favourite part was the spectacular sculpture garden on the coast of the Baltic Sea.
I am not exactly sure how the retreat will influence my artwork, but I am looking forward to exploring some of the ideas I learnt during the process.
