Celtic Influence

Celtic Influence

My paintings are generally inspired by the environment around me, the rivers and coastline of the Noosa region and the beautiful landscape in the hinterland. But there is a deeper inspiration, that comes from my childhood and my memory of growing up in The Long Mynd.

I was born in a small village, Church Stretton, situated on the edge of the Long Mynd, a beautiful stretch of countryside on the border of England and Wales.

This wild landscape has long influenced me as does the landscape of Australia where I now live. I trace my ancestry back to the ancient Celtic traditions of connection to the land and these energies still find their expression in my work.

I have distant memories of this wild moorland with its ancient Saxon barrows, burial mounds (tumuli) and fortresses which have, over time, become moss, grass and lichen covered. They seem to hold ancient memories and prehistoric energies which I can still feel to this day.
